Calgary Bay

Calgary Bay is one of the best sandy beaches on Mull, and it’s located on an island with as few sandy beaches as Mull. The bay faces west towards Coll and Tiree. The beach is wide and sandy. If you catch the sea at the correct moment, it looks like an innocent blue ocean.arms of high ground sweep around the north and south sides of the bay, framing it nicely It is about 12 kilometers west of Tobermory and nearly 6 kilometers from Dervaig. The name comes from a Gaelic phrase that means “the meadow beside the bay.” It’s uncertain when people first settled here, but it appears unlikely that on their travels around the Western Isles, the Vikings would have missed an almost ideal place for them to camp, with shelter, a beach on which to launch their boats out of the water, fertile land for farming, and surrounding high ground making assault difficult from the landward side.
